Argos Fall to Lopes 3-1

November 4 – The Notre Dame de Namur women’s volleyball team could not hold off the Grand Canyon Antelopes, dropping their last game of the season 3-1 (28-30, 26-30, 36-34, 22-30)  The ‘Lopes used 59 kills, eight aces and 23 blocks to improve their record to 17-14 on the season.  NDNU racked up 67 kills, 26 of which came in the thrilling third game. 

 

Marissa Miller led four Argos who reached double digit kills, connecting on a career high 24 kills and adding 21 digs.  Caitlin Torres tallied 16 kills while Sarah Perry and Emily Evans had 12 and 11 respectively.  Senior Jennifer McMurtry closed out her career at NDNU with 55 assists and two aces.  GCU was led by Dana Edington’s 21 kills and Ashley Bright’s 12 blocks.  Tonya Rooth added 11 kills while Bright and Stephanie Yingling tacked on nine apiece.  The Argos concluded the season with a 14-23 overall record and were 3-12 in Pac West play. Box Score

 

Argos Outlast ‘Lopes in Five Games

November 3 – The NDNU women’s volleyball captured their third straight Pac West victory, downing Grand Canyon in five games (27-30, 30-17, 30-23, 22-30, 15-5).  The Argos found themselves down a game early, but bounced back with two straight wins.  In the second game, with the score tied at 17, NDNU rallied off 13 straight points to tie the match at one game apiece.  After the Argos won game three to take a 2-1 lead, the ‘Lopes won game four, sending the match into a fifth game.  Jennifer McMurtry started off the fifth game with two straight aces as NDNU jumped out to a big lead and cruised to a 15-5 victory.  The Argos racked up 68 kills and 14 aces for the match while Grand Canyon collected 47 kills and 15 blocks.

Emily Evans led the Argos attack, recording a career high 20 kills and hit .317 on the night.  Marrisa Miller added 18 kills, seven aces and a game high 21 digs while Sarah Perry tacked 11 kills of her own.  Jennifer McMurtry tallied 56 assists and Shauna Folan picked up 19 digs for NDNU on the night.  Grand Canyon got 13 kills apiece from Stephanie Yingling and Dana Edington as well as nine blocks from Ashley Bright.  These two teams will meet again tomorrow night at Walter Gleason Gym for the final game of the season at 7:00 pm.

Argos Fall to CSU East Bay

October 31 – The NDNU women’s volleyball team could not make it four wins in a row, dropping a non-conference match with CSU East Bay.  The Pioneers swept the match in three games (30-32, 24-30, 25-30) giving them a 2-1 season record against the Argos.  NDNU fell to 13-22 on the season despite racking up more kills than CSUEB and making fewer errors.  The Argos tallied 44 kills including 18 in the first game while East Bay finished with 40.  The Pioneers got a big boost from their serving game, recording 13 aces, including eight from Alyssa Chang.

Marissa Miller once again led the Argos attack, connecting on 16 kills while Emily Evans added 12.  Shauna Folan had a game high 26 digs and Jennifer McMurtry recorded 29 assists.  CSU East Bay was led by Kristen Cameron's 11 kills and 17 digs.  NDNU concluded their season with a pair of matches this weekend against Grand Canyon University.  Box Score
