NDNU Places 6th at Sonoma State Invitational
October 21 – Nicole Burtt and Kelly Ashton each turned in top-10 performances as the Notre Dame de Namur women’s golf team finished 6th at the Sonoma State Invitational. The Argos played only four golfers and shot a 686 in their final tournament of the fall.
Burtt finished 4th with a two round score of 155 thanks in large part to a 74 in the opening round. Her 74 was the second best round of the tournament and she followed it up with an 81. Ashton turned in her fourth straight top-10 finish with a tie for 9th place. She shot 160 for the tournament, including a 78 in the second round.
Kelly Owen tied for 17th place with a 167 while Lauren Kelley rounded out the NDNU scoring with a 204. RESULTS
NDNU Finishes 5th at InterWest Invite
April 8 – Brittany Carrera’s season best 153 helped lead the Notre Dame de Namur women’s golf team to a fifth place finish at the Chico State Invitational. The Argos shot a 322 in the opening round before following up with 321 in the final round.
Carrera finished in 3rd place individually after leading the field with a 76 in the opening round. Western Washington’s Catherine Kim shot a course record 69 in the second round to overtake Carrera and earn the individual title. WWU also won the team title, outlasting a field of 11 teams.
Nicole Burtt and Kelly Ashton also placed in the top-20 after shooting 162 each. Jamie Zunini and Kelly Owen rounded out the Argonauts scoring with a 170 and 171 respectively.
The Argos concluded the 2007-08 season with four top-five finishes, including a team title at the CSU East Bay Ladies Invitational. RESULTS
Argos Finish 14th at Grand Canyon Invitational
March 25 – The Notre Dame de Namur women’s golf team finished 14th at the Grand Canyon Spring Invitational on Monday and Tuesday. The Argos were once again led by Brittany Carrera, but also got a career best 77 in the second round by Nicole Burtt to maintain their spot.
Burtt’s second round 77 was also the best score of any Argonaut for the tournament while Carrera first round 78 was second best. As a team, NDNU finished 17 strokes better in the second round with Jamie Zunini and Kelly Ashton shooting an 80 and 81 respectively.
California Baptist won the 18-team tournament in a playoff over St. Edwards University while Northeastern State’s Stephanie Bird won the individual medal with a 147.
Four Argos finished within five strokes of each other as Carrera’s 163 placed her in a tie for 47th. Burtt’s 165 put her in a tie for 58th while Ashton (167) and Zunini (168) rounded out the NDNU scores.
The Argos close out the year on April 7th at the Wells Fargo Spring Invitational in Chico. RESULTS
Argos Finish 6th at Lady Otter Spring Invitational
March 18 – Sophomore Brittany Carrera once again paced the Notre Dame de Namur women’s golf team with a top-10 finish. Carrera shot an 80 in each of the two rounds to place seventh while the Argos finished the 12-team tournament in sixth place.
NDNU entered the final round in seventh but moved up one spot with a 333. All five women scored below 90 in the final round for the fifth time this year.
Carrera earned her fifth top-10 performance of the year with a 160 while Kelly Ashton finished tied for 28th with a 171. Jamie Zunini (177), Kelly Owen (180) and Nicole Burtt (185) rounded out the NDNU scoring.
The Argos hit the links again next week when they travel to Phoenix to play in the GCU Spring Invitational. RESULTS
Argos Finish Third at NDNU Invitational
March 11 – The Notre Dame de Namur women’s golf team finished in third place at the 1st Annual NDNU Invitational. The Argos finished one shot behind CSU Monterey Bay for second place in the four team field.
St. Martin’s won the Invitational by 25 strokes with a pair of outstanding rounds, shooting a 320 in the first round and a 325 in the second. The Saints entered the final round one stroke behind the Otters but overcame the deficit after Stacie Henden and Lauren Roberts shot 78 apiece.
CSUMB’s Cicilia Chudivan took home the individual title with the low round each day. Chudivan shot a first round 75 followed by a 77 in the second round to finish at 152.
Brittany Carrera led the Argos with a 159 to finish in third place while Kelly Ashton shot a 166 to place 8th. Jaime Zunini (172), Nicole Burtt (177) and Kelly Owen (177) rounded out the NDNU scoring.
The Argos hit the course again next week when they travel to Seaside to play in the Lady Otter Spring Invitational.
Argos Successfully Defend Title at CSU East Bay Invitational
February 26 – For the second straight year, the Notre Dame de Namur women’s golf team won the CSU East Bay Invitational. The Argos dominated the four team field, taking a 30 stroke lead into the second round before eventually winning by 37 strokes.
Sophomore Brittany Carrera earned the program’s first ever individual title with a two round score of 161. She shot a first round low of 81 before firing an 80 in the second round to defeat CSUEB’s Kelly Tilton by two strokes.
Kelly Ashton finished four strokes back in 3rd place with scored of 83 and 82. Nicole Burtt (170) and Kelly Owen (173) also cracked the top-10, placing 5th and 6th respectively. Jamie Zunini (177), Sierra Summers (190) and Lauren Kelley (202) rounded out the NDNU participants.
The Argos are back in action March 10-11 when they host the 1st Annual NDNU Ladies Invitational at Poppy Ridge Golf Course in Livermore. RESULTS
NDNU Places 8th at Dennis Rose Intercollegiate
October 30 – The Notre Dame de Namur women’s golf team closed out their 2007 Fall schedule with a 8th place finish at the Dennis Rose Intercollegiate. The 54-hole tournament at the Mauna Lani in Kona, Hawaii featured 12 teams and was won by Cal Baptist. The Argos shot a total score of 1031 and finished just five strokes behind Grand Canyon for seventh place.
Brittany Carrera and Kelly Ashton were once again the top individuals for the Argonauts, both finishing in the top-15. Carrera fired a 248 to place in a tie for 11th while Ashton’s 251 put her in 14th place. Sierra Summers (266), Jaime Zunini (271) and Kelly Owen (272) rounded out the Argonauts score. Ashton recorded the best single round score of the tournament for the Argos, shooting a 78 in the opening round.
The Argos closed out their fall schedule and will return in February for the CSU East Bay Ladies Invitational on the 25th and 26th. RESULTS
Argos Finish 5th at Sonoma State Invitational
October 23 – Two Argos cracked the top-10 as the Notre Dame de Namur women’s golf team placed fifth at the Sonoma State Invitational. Kelly Ashton and Brittany Carrera each turned in impressive individual performances while leading the Argos to a 676 total score in the seven-team, 36 hole tournament. Western Washington swept the Invitational, winning the team title with a score of 637 and the individual title with Lianne Matkin’s 152.
Ashton (159) was once again the top individual for the Argos, placing in a tie for fourth and earning her second consecutive top-5 finish. Carerra finished just two strokes behind with a 161 on her way to an eighth place tie. Sierra Summers (174), Jaime Zunini (182) and Kelly Owen (188) rounded out the NDNU score.
The Argos are off to Hawaii next week to play in the Mauna Lani Intercollegiate. RESULTS
NDNU Ties for Fifth at Lady Otter Invitational
October 2 – After finishing the first round of the Lady Otter Invitational in 8th place, the Notre Dame de Namur women’s golf team surged into a fifth place tie with a stellar second round. The Argos shot a 341 on the opening 18 holes before responding with a 328, the third best score of the second round.
NDNU’s total score of 669 placed them in a tie with Hawaii Hilo. The Invitational featured 18 schools and was ultimately won by Chico State with a 646. Kelly Ashton once again was the top individual for the Argonauts, finishing in 5th place with a 157. Ashton shot 79 in the opening round and 78 in the final to finish eleven stokes behind tournament winner Malin Thornberg from California Baptist. Brittany Carrera fired a 163 to tie for 11th place while Sierra Summer (176), Nicole Burtt (176) and Kelly Owen (179) rounded out the Argos score.
The Argos are off until October 22-23 when they travel to Santa Rosa for the Sonoma State Invitational. RESULTS
Argos Place 10th at Grand Canyon Invitational
September 25 – The Notre Dame de Namur women’s golf team started off their 2007 fall schedule with a 10th place finish at the Grand Canyon Invitational. The 36-hole tournament was played at Coldwater Golf Course in Phoenix, Arizona.
The Argos shot 635 as a team finishing just one stroke behind Dallas Baptist who placed ninth. NDNU finished the first round in ninth place after shooting a 314 but dropped to tenth with a 321 on Tuesday. Kelly Ashton had a very strong showing in her first collegiate tournament, finishing in a tie for 11th place with a 151. Brittany Carrera shot a 155 to finish in a tie for 24th place while Sierra Summers (48th), Nicole Burtt (54th) and Jamie Zunini (76th) also competed for the Argonauts.
NDNU hits the course again on Monday, October 1st for the Lady Otter Invitational held in Seaside. RESULTS
Argos Conclude Season with 8th Place Finish at Chico State Invitational
April 9 – The NDNU women’s golf team completed their 2006-2007 season with an eighth place finish at the InterWest Chico State Invitational. The 36-hole, 10 team tournament was held at Butte Creek Country Club in Chico on Monday and Tuesday. The Argos finished with a two-round score of 694 placing them in sole possession of eighth place. Victoria (British Columbia) went on to win the tournament firing tournament low rounds on both Monday and Tuesday. Anne Balser and Kenzie Janzen from Victoria tied for the individual title, finishing +10 for the tournament.
Brittany Carrera was the top performer for NDNU, shooting a 163 and finishing just eleven strokes back of the leaders. Kelly Owen and T. Ishihara-Paraso each shot 174 and tied for 41st place. The Argos concluded their fourth year of play with several impressive performances, including the program’s first win at CSU East Bay. RESULTS
Argos Finish 18th at Grand Canyon Spring Invite
March 27 – The Notre Dame de Namur women's golf team placed 18th at the Grand Canyon Invitational played at Palm Valley Golf Course in Goodyear, Arizona. The 20 team, 36-hole tournament featured some of the best Division II teams in the nations with Tarleton State winning the team medal. Denise Canadas from Chico State took home individual honors shooting a five-over-par, 149.
Brittany Carrera was the top finisher for NDNU, shooting a 159 and placing 32nd for the tournament. Tiffany Ishihara-Paraso finished in a tie for 60th with a 168. The NDNU women close out their season April 9-10 at the Chico State Spring Invitational. RESULTS
Women Place Sixth at Lady Otter Invitational
March 20 – The Notre Dame de Namur women's golf team finished sixth at the CSU Monterey Bay/Lady Otter Invitational played in Seaside, California. The Argos finished the 36-hole event with a team score of 718. Tarleton State took home the team medal by shooting a tournament low 651.
Kelly Owen was the top finisher for NDNU, coming in tied for 14th with a 171. Brittany Carrera also finished in the top 20, shooting a 177. The Argos are off to Phoenix next week to play in the Pacific West Championship hosted by Grand Canyon. RESULTS
NDNU Women Participate in First Event of 2007
February 20 - The NDNU women's golf team finished 12th in the CSU San Marcos Cougar Invitational on Monday. The tournament was supposed to be a two day event, but was changed to one day because of rain. The Argos shot a 355 for the round, 24 shots behind tourney winner Embry-Riddle.
Brittany Carrera and Kelly Owen were the top NDNU finishers, placing in a tie for 32nd despite being just eight shots off the pace. The Argos will play in the CSU East Bay Invitational next week at the Monarch Bay Golf Course in San Leandro, CA. RESULTS
Women Place Fourth at Mauna Lani Intercollegiate
October 31 - The NDNU women's golf team finished fourth at the Mauna Lani Intercollegiate held at the Francis H. I‘i Brown North Course in Hawaii. Brittany Carerra once again was the top performer on the team, finishing in a sixth place tie. Carrera fired a 242 (80-78-84) to finish 11 strokes behind tournament winner Kiilani Matsuyoshi from Hawaii-Hilo. UHH also took home the team championship, shooting a 974 and finishing four strokes ahead of Chico State. The Argos also got a top ten finish from Kelly Owen who shot 247 for the three rounds. NDNU continues their season in February at CSU San Marcos. RESULTS
