Argos Split Opening Day of Best of the West Tournament February 2 - The Notre Dame de Namur softball team opened their 2007 season with a split of a pair of games at the Togo's Best of the West Tournament in Turlock, CA. The Argos opened 5-0 loss to CSU Monterey Bay before rebounding to defeat Chico State 5-4. In the first game, the NDNU bats could not get going, managing only four hits. Cierra Kenney toed the rubber for the Argos, picking up her first loss of the season despite giving up only three earned runs. Kate Elwell went 2 for 2 for NDNU while Anna Garza and Milana Jordan each picked up a hit. Jessica Boyle picked up the victory for the Sea Otters, hurling four and one-thirds innings of scoreless ball. Ashlee Trotter led the Monterey offense with a pair of hits and two RBIs. BOX SCORE NDNU's bats came alive in the second game on their way to a 5-4 victory over CSU Chico. The Argos fell behind early 1-0, surrendering a run in the bottom of the second. However, the lead would not last long as NDNU put up five runs in the top of the third. Milana Jordan belted a two run homerun and Amy Paulson drove in a pair of her own to put the Argos up 5-1. Chico scored three in the bottom of the inning, but could not tie the game as pitcher Tara Van Meter held them scoreless for the final four innings. Van Meter picked up the win, pitching a complete game while allowing just three earned runs. BOX SCORE |
