Master's Programs

Each Master's Program includes 30 units of advanced study of research and practice in the areas of teaching, learning, technology, social justice, diversity, and equity. Each of the MA.Ed programs culminates with a thesis project – – a form of teacher research that demonstrates scholarly knowledge, skill, and habits of inquiry. The MA in Special Education does not require a thesis; it requires a capstone project.

If you are a recent graduate of Notre Dame's credential program (1999 or later), you may have a unique opportunity to count up to four of your credential courses toward your master's degree. This significantly reduces the time and financial resources required to earn a master's degree. Contact Dr. Kim Tolley at (650) 508-3464 for additional information regarding this opportunity.

Master's courses are taught by faculty representing diverse academic and practical expertise. As a student in the master's program, you will experience personalized instruction and mentoring, ensuring that the program supports you in your efforts to accomplish your personal and professional goals. Courses are available during both summer sessions as well as the fall and spring semesters. Courses are offered late in the afternoons/evening and on weekends in order to accommodate work commitments. Once you are admitted to the program, your advisor will work with you to create a program plan that meets your needs.
