Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Do I need a Username and Password to use the computers?
In the all the open labs, you need to log-in with your NDNU Student Username and Password. You don't need a log-on to use the computers in the Macintosh Lab (SM117).

2. How can I tell what my Username and Password are?
NDNU Student Usernames
are created by combining the first letter of the first name with the last name. For example, Jane Smith = jsmith. The usernames are case-sensitive (in this example, jsmith works, but JSmith does not work). Any apostrophes in last names are omitted; for example, Mary O'Leary = moleary. For two-part last names, the complete two-part last name is included, however the hyphen is omitted. For example, David Clayton-Thomas = dclaytonthomas.

NDNU Student Passwords are created by combining the first two letters (lower-case) of the student's last name with the last four digits of his or her NDNU ID number. If Jane Smith's NDNU ID # is 261234, herdefault password = sm1234.
For a two-part last names, the first two letters of the first part of the two-part last name will be used. If David Clayton-Thomas' NDNU ID # is 261234, his password will be cl1234.

3. I get an error message when I try to log on:
“The system could not log you on. Make sure your User name and domain are correct, then type your password again. Letters in passwords must be typed using the correct case. Make sure that Caps Lock is not accidentally on.”
This problem may be due to the Log-on to field being set to the local PC rather than the Lab Domain. If Domain shows: “PCLAB001 (this computer)," click the dropdown arrow for domain and select NDNU_LAB.
If it is already set to NDNU_LAB, or still doesn't work after you set the domain to NDNU_LAB, it could mean that a user account on the server has not yet been created for you. Call ex 3555 in this case.

4. How do I report a problem in the Labs?

Look for the Lab Monitor on duty.  If you can't find the Lab Monitor, please call the Help Desk at Ext 3555.
